Overview
Kaohsiung Medical University, (formally known as Kaohsiung Medical College) having its genesis back in 1954, dedicates to cradling culturally and ethically qualified physicians and medical-related specialists. KMU University Hospital, set up in 1957, has committed to provide the highest quality of health care and lead pioneering medical researches as its social promise.
As the first private medical university, KMU positioned itself as the center of medical care on establishment and played a key role to tackle with tropical disease in its early stage. Later it shifted its full focus to research on basic medical science and clinical medicine. Nowadays, it has evolved to be the leading medical institution in Southern Taiwan. KMU developed initially from a college with single Faculty to a university with 7 colleges with more than 500 faculty members, 6800 students and 4 affiliated hospitals. Located at the heart of the metropolitan, it is much closer to any attraction in Kaohsiung.

Mission
KMU aims to cultivate qualified medical-related specialists with strong sense of social responsibility. There are 35 alumni and faculty members receiving Awards of Devotion to Healthcare fspecial contribution to public health, patients and populations in aboriginal and remote areas.
Research Innovation
Scholars receiving Outstanding Research Award by Ministry of Science and Technology in 2011, 2012, and 2014 and Award fModel on Medical Care f5 consecutive years.
Innovative medical device, designed by research collaboration with industry, winning Taiwan Excellence Gold Award.
Student’s Academic and Extracurricular Performance
Students from different disciplines participating national contests and winning 11 awards. Two student clubs accredited as Outstanding Award fUniversity Student Club.
Voluntary Service
Five annually united teams fvoluntary service overseas by Student International Volunteer Service, KMU, and randomly consorted teams by medical students to give volunteer medical consultation paid to our local aboriginal and remote areas-paving way fmedical specialists with humanity care.
