Gemplus was founded in 1988, at the very start of the development of smart card technology. We are now active in 37 countries around the world, with 50 Sales and Marketing offices, 4 Research & Development centers, 17 personalization facilities and 11 manufacturing sites.
In total we have sold over 4 billion smart cards, of which 570 million were shipped in 2003, making us the industry leader for a sixth consecutive year with a 30 market share. In 2003 we achieved a revenue of 749 million.
Gemplus International SA is traded on stock exchanges in Paris (Euronext) and New York (NASDAQ).
